Trujillo provided those numbers during a press conference Thursday afternoon.

He is expected to give the TUSD Governing Board a recommendation on school reconfiguration later this year before board members likely votes in December.

His recommendation will be informed in part by a 22-person TUSD School Reconfiguration Committee.

The superintendent said the committee will be looking at data including operating costs of each school and enrollment.

Trujillo told reporters the TUSD is exploring closures and consolidations for multiple reasons, including a reduction in the number of K-12 age students within district boundaries.

Trujillo said five years ago there were more than 56,000 of these students.

However, now that figure is down at more than 52,500 children.
