U of A Cancer Center hosts breast cancer town hall to share information, advances in research.
Breast cancer survivors, researchers and medical experts came together Tuesday for a town hall hosted by the University of Arizona Cancer Center, bringing the community together to discuss breast health, treatment and advances in cancer research.
The Breast Cancer Town Hall featured a presentation on breast cancer basics, followed by a question-and-answer session with experts in breast surgical oncology, medical oncology, breast imaging, pathology, genetic counseling and patient advocacy.
The event aimed to give community members an opportunity to learn more about prevention, diagnosis and treatment while getting answers to questions about breast cancer.
University of Arizona Cancer Center Director Dan Theodorescu said recent advances in cancer research are making a meaningful difference for patients.
He pointed to advancements made over the past five to seven years, including new treatments and biomarkers that are helping improve patients' quality of life and length of life.
Theodorescu said those developments build on foundational research conducted across the country and around the world.
The town hall also emphasized the importance of making breast cancer information accessible to the public and giving patients and their loved ones opportunities to engage directly with medical experts.
