Tucson rescue crews save distressed hiker on west side trail
Tucson rescue crews save distressed hiker on west side trail.
Passing mountain bikers helped emergency crews locate and rescue a hiker in distress on a desert trail.
Firefighters responded to the 36th St. Trail on the west side of Tucson at about 10:35 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4, according to the Tucson Fire Department.
With the assistance of mountain bikers who were riding nearby, rescuers successfully located the hiker and helped them return to their vehicle.
First responders provided the hiker with water and electrolytes.
The hiker refused transportation to a hospital.
The rescue prompted officials to issue a safety reminder for those heading outdoors.
Although the calendar indicates fall weather and pumpkin spice season, temperatures in the Sonoran Desert can still climb into the high 90s during the autumn months.
Safety officials recommend that hikers take plenty of water, carry a cell phone, and ensure someone knows their plans, including where they are going and when they expect to return.
