Tucson leaders adopt a new multiyear plan to tackle local poverty
Tucson leaders adopt a new multiyear plan to tackle local poverty.
The three- to five-year framework is designed to address poverty through targeted municipal policies, programs, and partnerships.
According to the memorandum, the framework focuses on municipal authority, operations, programs, and future budget decisions to address poverty.
City officials say the plan is organized with four key goals: promoting opportunity-rich neighborhoods, addressing the root causes of poverty through prevention, expanding economic and community mobility, and ensuring equitable city systems.
To track regional progress in poverty, housing stability, education, and other key areas, the city developed a shared Prosperity Initiative Indicator Dashboard in partnership with Pima County.
According to the memorandum, the city divides the implementation of the plan into three tiers.
Moving forward, city departments will develop specific implementation plans.
The city also plans to reestablish the City Prosperity Initiative Work Group and track any additional operating costs associated with the initiative.
