Strong winds challenge vendors at Tucson Meet Yourself festival
Strong winds challenge vendors at Tucson Meet Yourself festival.
Strong winds are creating major challenges for vendors trying to protect their artwork at a popular local festival.
Festival participants are taking extra precautions to secure their tents and canopies as gusty conditions sweep through the area, according to event organizers and safety officials.
The Tucson Fire Department urged people Friday, Oct. 16, to secure loose items at the Tucson Meet Yourself festival in downtown Tucson.
Fire officials advised vendors to anchor their tents and canopies to prevent them from blowing away.
Luis Valenzuela, a vendor and member of the Yaqui Tribe, said the wind is the strongest he has seen in his years participating in the festival.
Valenzuela plans to remain at the festival representing his tribe and culture throughout the weekend.
Fire officials continue to urge everyone in the area to remain aware of their surroundings in case of flying objects.
