PACC needs adopters for 26 dogs seized in Tucson hoarding case
PACC needs adopters for 26 dogs seized in Tucson hoarding case.
Pima Animal Care Center is seeking adopters for more than two dozen dogs rescued from a hoarding situation, with half of the animals being less than a year old.
According to PACC, Animal Protection Officers seized 26 medium to large mixed breed dogs last week after the Tucson Police Department requested assistance while condemning a home near Irvington Road and 12th Avenue.
Officers discovered poor living conditions with a strong smell and animal waste covering the floors.
The influx of dogs comes at a challenging time for the shelter, officials said.
October typically brings higher intake numbers and fewer adoptions compared to other months, leaving kennels at capacity.
Both the main PACC shelter, 4000 N. Silverbell Road, and EPAC, 7225 E. Broadway Blvd., currently have every kennel full, with some housing multiple dogs.
Without adoptions, the shelter may need to euthanize animals on deadline, PACC said.
Friends of Pima Animal Care Center will offer a promotion each Saturday during the month of October.
Adopters who take home dogs weighing 30 pounds or more will receive a $25 credit to the in-shelter Central Pet store, usable the same day.
