New PCC degree program targets Arizona's teacher shortage
New PCC degree program targets Arizona's teacher shortage.
A new degree program in Tucson aims to put more qualified educators into local classrooms to help address a statewide teacher shortage.
Pima Community College is launching its new Bachelor of Arts in Education degree program.
The program, approved by the Arizona Department of Education, provides students with an affordable and accessible pathway to becoming certified teachers, according to college officials.
Graduates will earn dual certification in elementary education for grades K-8 and special education for grades K-12.
PCC officials said this dual track expands career opportunities for students while helping meet the growing demand for qualified teachers.
To enroll in the program, students must complete an application, attend an information session and meet with an advisor.
Applicants are also required to complete all general education coursework and obtain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints Fingerprint Clearance Card.
