Tucson Unified School District is expanding its partnership with Banner-University Medicine to provide more sports medicine services for student-athletes.
The district and Banner have signed a new five-year agreement that expands sports medicine services at TUSD high schools.
The biggest change is that Banner will have eight full-time athletic trainers working across the district this school year, up from just one in 2021.
"The importance of having a trainer here on campus is honestly that we have immediate help when it comes to medical needs," a student said.
"We can go to them when we have other physical struggles."
Trainers provide injury prevention, evaluations, emergency care, rehabilitation and concussion management.
